All first (1.5 hr) visits cost $90. However, if you are committed to taking charge of your own health but my fees are beyond your means, a limited number of lower-fee slots are available. If financial concerns are limiting your health care choices, we can also discuss whether acupuncture make sense at this time and whether there might be other low-cost options for you to explore.
If you are not sure whether acupuncture is the best therapy to pursue, we can schedule a complimentary, 30-minute session to discuss your health care options. I have been exploring alternative health for 30 years and am familiar with what is available and the most effective combinations for many conditions.
There are so many options today, it can be confusing to decide the best approach to improve your health. Since both time and money are limited for all of us, it is important to me to help people make educated choices.
Your insurance might cover my fees in some cases, as described below. However, my personal ethics and sense of what is generally best for my patients keep me from joining the preferred provider lists of major health insurance companies. Learn why I choose not to be a health insurance preferred provider.
It is very important to me that my position does not prevent anyone who wishes to see me from doing so. I am committed to providing affordable care to the full extent that I am able. Please read below for details on how we can still work together, with or without insurance coverage.
Will your insurance cover my acupuncture fees?
In case of motor vehicle accidents (MVA): Yes
Whether you were a driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist, if you are seeking care from me because of a motor vehicle accident, your care is completely covered by the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) clause of your (or the other driver’s) auto insurance.
PIP is a separate system from your health care plan and I am happy to bill the insurance company directly.
All other situations and conditions: Maybe
Not an MVA and your insurance covers out-of-network providers: Often
Your co-pay plus the percentage your plan pays often covers my fees.
Not an MVA and your insurance does not cover out-of-network providers: No
But you’ll probably only pay $25 more out of pocket than if I were on your plan.
For all other conditions and situations: Your insurance may or may not cover my fees. To find out, I recommend that you call your insurance provider and ask them:
- What is your normal co-pay for acupuncture? (The normal co-pay is the amount you would pay out-of-pocket for each visit to a practitioner on their provider list.)
- Do you cover out-of-network practitioners? If so, what percentage of their fee will you pay?
Then call or Email me with the information and we will discuss it.
If your insurance covers out-of-network providers
Although I am not listed on your provider list, your co-pay fee plus the percentage your plan pays to non-participants will often cover the cost of your treatments. I will provide you with all the completed forms you need to submit for reimbursement.
If your insurance plan does not cover out-of-network providers
If your insurance plan does not cover ‘out-of-network providers’ (me), you will need to pay for your treatment out-of-pocket. It will cost you approximately only $25 more per session than if I were on your plan.
Why you might choose to pay out-of-pocket
Even if their insurance plans don’t cover the cost of their treatments, many of my clients feel it’s well worth it to pay for it themselves. Why do many of my patients choose to skip the whole insurance route and pay out-of-pocket?
Non-insurance clients have the freedom to address all health concerns. Your insurance plan PROBABLY only covers acupuncture for conditions of pain. Acupuncture, however, is very effective in treating a wide range of health concerns, including allergies, auto-immune conditions, and dozens of other conditions. “Preferred providers” are not allowed to focus treatment on any of these health issues.
- More treatment techniques are available to non-insurance clients. Acupuncture is about much more than pins and needles. Many useful modalities I commonly use are not permitted by insurance plans.
- Confidentiality is assured for non-insurance clients. Insurance-paid doctor visits are a permanent part of your medical records. Traditional Chinese Medicine doesn’t separate emotional, mental and physical complaints. Considering all aspects of your health is often the best way for me to form a complete treatment plan for you. When you pay me directly, no one outside the two of us ever needs to know that you are seeing me or why. I can guarantee complete confidentiality.
